There's not much work done on the website, I know, and I haven't written anything new as of 2013. I've been working on these little projects for the UWM band director, mainly turning illegible parts to legible ones using music editing software, or creating missing parts from the score. Soon I'm going to begin work on my latest commission, a trombone quartet, which shouldn't take very long.
I've never been a really strong high-horn player, and this summer my high range is going to be tested to the limit. We're playing John Harbison's "Three City Blocks" which has a very high 1st horn part. Most of my notes are above the staff. The third horn part is also high, so you've got two horns up there. I may also end up playing 1st on Beethoven's 7th Symphony, which horn players know as quite a scary but exhilarating task. I'm also working on this piece called "Gemini" by Anthony DiLorenzo, which is a concerto for Horn & Euphonium duet, and that part as notes above the staff in every single passage. And I'm sure there will be more that will be getting me to play higher on the horn. Although this stuff is going to be very challenging for me, I'm happy to take it, because I need work on the high range so much. We'll see how that goes.
