And as hard as I work as a musician and try to be the best I can be, I still feel like I can do better. I feel like I could practice more, for starters. I really do just need to play my horn more. But also, I want to get better at the other brass instruments, because if I'm teaching advanced trumpet and trombone players (which I am), I should be able to play the instrument well enough to be better than my students and demonstrate...and I don't exactly feel like I am.
On top of just practicing more, I also want to be more on top of my research. I need to do more reading, and definitely some more listening. I need to become more encyclopedic. I have a ton of different things to read in my house that I haven't even read, such as 14 years of Horn Call Magazines, method books, composer biography books, and Jeff Agrell's improve book (although I have touched on that one often).
Another thing I want to do is update you guys more on stuff, as well as connect more with my students. I don't really post that much on my Facebook page, and I should. I also want to record rehearsals I lead and show you guys the good moments, as well as show my students so they can learn from them. It's also just a simple matter of remembering.
And I have plenty of projects at home still to do...Organizing, inventorying, arranging. I've gotta start working on my brass camp music! And I'll have new program music for the brass ensembles in a month and a half!
Sure, I'm expecting a lot out of myself, especially as a family man. I mean, this would be a lot for a single man, but it would definitely be easier. But, I'm gonna do it. Just watch. And wait.
Take care and value music.
