So yeah, any of you who have played or own my compositions may notice that there may be a notation problems, such as the lack of courtesy accidentals, or a note that sounds not quite right, or over-lapping figures. In my defense, though, there are tons of notational errors in music literature out there. As a performer for the last 13 years, I've seen quite a lot of it. Of course, self-publishers like myself have many notational errors. But even works by publishing companies can have the occasional error. Hornists who play in concert bands know of the misprint in the 3rd horn part of the last movement of the 1st Holst Suite for Band, for instance.
So yeah, it happens to the best of us...and I want to fix it in my works. This is sparked by the latest review I had in the May 2017 edition of the Horn Call of my McBones Fanfare. The review said some really great stuff about the composition, although noted the notational errors. UGH!! They were right!
The main issue in my editions is that I don't have courtesy accidentals. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out how to input them in Finale. But I just recently learned how to. And I really need to. I've complained about the lack of them as a performer. Anyone who's played Ewazen's Grand Canyon Octet may agree with me. So, I've got a lot of work to do. I've basically got to go through every piece. But, I'll do whatever it takes to be professional.
So, add that to the list...of stuff I gotta do before September.
Take care and value music.
