Y'know, maybe it's a good idea that I'v decided not to go full-throttle in performance...because this kind of thing is a possibility for me. If I'm susceptible to this kind of thing with my range, then I have no business being a full-time player. It's hard to come to terms with that, since I was so bent on being a pro and playing at an elite level, but I'll stick to what I'm good at: teaching.
But don't worry, I'm still practicing a lot because it's fun, and because I'll still perform locally at the best level that I can. I also still have a lots of recording plans...it's just been kind of hard to record lately, so I've been sort of taking a break from it. That's been hard, because I don't get a lot of time to record, anyways.
In other news, I've got a couple exciting concerts coming up with my students. Tomorrow my brass ensembles play their 2nd Spring concert. Some of the members are seniors, so it will be their last concert with us, which is sad. And then on June 9 is my brass studio recital, so all of my students will play something on their own or with a buddy (or me), and then all together on a piece. I'll also have graduating seniors to commemorate on that recital. I am also playing with the Anacortes HS Wind Ensemble on June 8th, which I'm very excited for, as well. So it's going to be a fun week!
Oh, and I get to play a really fun concert on June 21 with the Yakima Symphony again, this time playing an all-John Williams Concert! I'll tell you more about it later, but I'm super-excited for it! Thankfully I'm playing 4th horn, so there aren't as many high notes...but there are some unison passages with high notes that I just can't do yet. I'm hoping to get those worked up in a couple weeks. If it doesn't, I think it'll be okay, since they're unison passages with the other horns, and there will be an assistant principal. Still, I'd feel bad not being able to play my part 100%...but at least I know I can play everything else really well.
Take care and value music.
