And yes, I am busy a lot, with projections that I will be getting even busier in the coming years. Since I started back in September of 2015, I've pretty much averaged about 20 students. Within the last year I've had more than 20 students, at one point having 30. My goal is to have a regular schedule of 40 students. It'll happen someday.
But I'm digressing a bit, here. I intended today to talk about what I have going on this weekend! It all revolves around my solo recital and the Whidbey Island Horn Club's Spring concert. Tonight I lead the dress rehearsal for the WIHC, with our performance being on Saturday evening at 6:30pm at Click Music Store in Oak Harbor (come check us out!). My solo recital will be played twice, once on Saturday and once on Sunday, both at 3pm. I have my dress rehearsal for that tomorrow afternoon. This recital is going be awesome, as we are playing music of Franz Strauss and Richard Strauss. Then tomorrow, I begin the summer season of the Harbor Brass, as well as the first-ever season of the new Penn Cove Brass Ensemble, which is the high school version of the Harbor Brass. It's probably my busiest weekend of the year...and it's awesome. Also throw in some lessons, and I've got a full weekend.
I love being able to put on concerts, whether it's my solo recital or a horn ensemble concert with no personal financial gain whatsoever. Both of these things wouldn't have happened if I hadn't made them happen. I love playing the horn so much and playing for people, that I guess I couldn't just sit around and doing nothing about it.
So yeah, that's how I survive as a musician. I create opportunities, as I have said before. I'm just curious to know what my musical world will be like in 5 or 10 years...
Take care and value music.
