This Saturday, the Whidbey Island Horn Club, a completely volunteer and non-profit group, will perform at the Farmer's Market in Coupeville, WA. It is our goal to perform for the community and inspire young musicians, and the Farmer's Market seems like a great place to gain popularity. Plus, we will be earning money through donations at the event, and that money will go towards purchasing music and other resources for the group. I want to limit personal expenses from the members, so having a club bank account and raising money will allow his to keep the group running and active. But anyways, it will be a lot of fun! I can't wait to see the public reaction to this!
Also happening is the first performance for my very own Harbor Brass Choir. Just in case you missed in my previous blog posts about what the Harbor Brass is, it's an extracurricular tuition-based brass ensemble composed of 6th, 7th & 8th grade brass players. We've had a great inaugural season of the group this summer, and the time has come for us to perform. I learned a lot by teaching this group. I had made the mistake of setting my expectations a little too high at the start of the summer with them. They're still really young, and playing chamber music is very difficult for such young players. So, we aren't playing as much music for our first concert as I had hoped (just 3 tunes). But, they are playing it well, and we'll put on a show, however short, for our audience. The kids had a fine dress rehearsal yesterday, and we're very excited to perform. That's the spirit! I want this group to be fun...but I also want it to sound good, and provide a good challenge for the players. By the time the Harbor Brass evolves to a high school group, I hope that it can be a very competitive group.
I also have received information on the upcoming Saratoga Symphony season, and it's great. I was also happy to discover that I have the honor of sitting in the principal horn chair once again. The first concert it most exciting to me. I'll have to explain later why it is, but you can get an idea of what it is here:

Take care and value music.
