Concerto for Horn & Orchestra No. 2 "Restoration", Piano Reduction
This is a 3-movement work for horn & orchestra, reduced here for horn & piano. The work was commissioned by Ashley Gulbranson, who had recovered from musician's focal dystonia (FD). Thus, she is an advocate to the awareness of FD and aims to help those dealing with it and recovering from it. This concerto was among several works commissioned.
Since the aim was to cater to players recovering from FD, there are limitations to the solo horn part: The range is limited (middle C to 5th-line F), limited interval distance, and faster passages are slurred, although the piece is rich in musical challenge. This piece is fulfilling for every level of musician, and players who don't have these limitations may enjoy programming a piece that is low on physical demands but high on musical interpretation.
Original orchestral instrumentation: 2.2.2.2 2.2.0.0. timp+strings.
