I have finished another original composition, and it has been added to the Catalog under "Mixed Chamber". It is "Four Pieces for Euphonium, Tuba & Marimba, Op. 21", commissioned by UWM students Steve Darling, Chris Michelotti & Colin O'Day. It was really a fun project, but also a difficult one. My goal was not only to make this piece technically challenging for the players, but also melodically and harmonically a little more complex. Although the piece is relatively tonal, it does venture a bit from tonality, and can safely be called the most harmonically outgoing piece I've composed, although I believe my voice as a composer is still present. I know one of my tendencies for which I've been complimented on is my use of surprising harmonies, and this piece is no different. It's just that some of these harmonies are really surprising. I really look forward to having you hear this work. It will be recorded soon by the guys who commissioned it, as they are putting together an album of new works played by them. With players as great as them, it should prove to be an incredibly amazing album.
