This time of the year is usually full of concerts, and it always will be. My Harbor Brass & Penn Cove Brass groups perform their Fall concert Today, and I'm very excited about it. Both groups are performing music of the Renaissance, Baroque and Classical Eras, and then will combine together to play an arrangement I made of Beethoven's "Egmont Overture". I have my conducting assistant, an 11th-grader from Oak Harbor High School, conducting two of the pieces on this program, including the Beethoven. Additionally, the Penn Cove Brass (my high school group) is playing without me conducting. I'm actually playing the entire program with them, which has been a lot of fun to prepare; they're very good. If you're local, come hear us play a free concert that's gonna be good! We'll be playing at 6pm at Click Music Store.
Once that is over, I prepare these two groups for their Christmas Concert on Dec. 15th. Before that, though, the Saratoga Orchestra will give one of the their 3 Christmas Concerts on Dec. 9th in Langley, followed by two more performances on Dec. 16th--one in Coupeville and one in Oak Harbor. On that same day, the Whidbey Island Horn Club will play their Fall/Winter concert.
This Horn Club concert is one you should really check out. Again, it's on Dec. 16th at 6:30pm at Click Music. We have one heck of a program put together, and let me tell you, this ensemble is sounding really good. It's amazing how improved this group has gotten since June 2016. It think everyone in the group is feeling the effects of what it's like to sound good, so there's more joy in the ensemble. And remember, this group is full of amateur players and high school students...and they sound amazing.
Take care and value music.
