I've performed 5 of his 9 symphonies: The 2nd (Festival City Symphony), 5th (CWU Orchestra), 6th (Mt. Baker Youth Symphony), 7th (Mid-Columbia Symphony, UWM Orchestra), and 9th (CWU Orchestra). Soon, with the Saratoga Orchestra, I will play the 4th. I just love his symphonies, and I'm dying to play the 3rd symphony. My experience playing the 9th was one of my best musical experiences ever.
Aside from that, I played his wonderful "Choral Fantasy" with the CWU Orchestra in 2006, and the Overture and Finale to "Creatures of Prometheus". Also, I got to play the 2nd horn part of his Fidelio Overture with the Wenatchee Valley Symphony, which was quite a treat.
Another fun performance was of the 3rd movement of his 3rd Symphony, arranged for horn ensemble. It was a tough piece! But man, it was a blast. I hope to acquire a copy of that arrangement for my horn club...
So yeah, if you haven't already, pay your respects to one of the greatest creators of music in history. So much of the music today is derived from what Beethoven did.
Take care and value music.
