Can you blame me, though? I mean, this is probably the biggest opportunity in music I've ever had, even bigger than subbing with the Milwaukee Symphony or touring Italy with the Wisconsin Wind Orchestra. This isn't the first time I've been featured with a professional orchestra; I've played the Gliere before with the Mid-Columbia Orchestra, and that was quite a huge opportunity. And, of course, I've premiered many of my pieces before and played in them.
But this...THIS...it's just an amazing opportunity. And it feels even more amazing because the I've finished writing the piece and I know that I really like it. The hope now is that everyone else likes it. I really hope they do. I mean, in the end, I write music because I enjoy hearing it, but mostly I write it to appeal to the audience. So...we'll see what happens.
Other one of my pieces got some attention this weekend. The Summerwinds Camp based out of Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA performed my Serenade for Winds No. 1 yesterday at their final concert. I haven't heard anything yet about how it went, so I'm anxious to hear. I wasn't able to attend, unfortunately.,it's only about and hour & 15 minute drive, but with a wife due to have a baby any day now (the due date is today, actually) it would be unwise to travel so far away from her at this point. Oh well...next time.
But yeah, I'll write more in my blog about the specifics of my concerto later. Keep checking in!
Take care and value music.
