Well, it's okay. I guess a bit of a break was a good things. Actually, I used that time to pretty up my scores, revise mistakes, and make them available for sale. And I've also used that time to let new compositional ideas fester in my mind. And now, it is time to get them out onto manuscript.
What I've got going (and am about to compose in the next 24 hours) is ideas for a horn concerto. My first of what I hope to be many. I'm so very excited for this! I strongly believe that this will be my best work, based on the musical ideas that I've heard in my head. I plan to be very careful with this composition, to make sure every note has its place. I hope to enter it in a composition competition in December that the International Horn Society has going. Hopefully it will be done then. But I'm already imagining myself playing this concerto with an orchestra...That's how solid the musical ideas are! I love this feeling!
So, I'll hopefully keep you guys updated on this piece. I'm very excited about it.
In other news, I had a couple nice little performances this weekend. Nothing super big, but still very fun. I played the Eb tuba with a small Salvation Army brass group on Thursday. I practiced a lot for this gig, and it paid off: I actually played the tuba pretty decently. You should hear me sometime...haha. No seriously, I like to leave the real judgements up to the listener. The gig was a horn duet opportunity with my wife at a fundraiser for her school's PTA. It was fun! We played on of the Rossini duets, a Mozart duet, and some of the Oscar Franz duets.
This weekend is when the fabulous Gothard Sisters visit Whidbey Island and perform with the string section of the Saratoga Symphony Orchestra of Whidbey Island. I arranged the string music of 4 of their songs so the strings could play with the sisters. I'm going to attend the concert to see how is sounds (because I didn't get to go to a rehearsal). Hopefully it works out well and is enjoyable. I also hope to get a photo op with the sisters (which, of course, you'll see here). More info about these girls and the concert at: http://www.gothardsisters.com.
Take care and value music.
