Anyways, here is a photo my wife took at his lesson yesterday. And I plan on posting lots of updates about how is progressing!

So my oldest son Luke, who is nearing 6 years old in a couple of month, started piano lessons yesterday. He's taking them from one of my trumpet students' parents, who is an established piano teacher, and is quite good at starting the very young beginners. It's very exciting for both of us, because before we had kids (and after, too, I guess) Holly and I always talked about how our kids would become musicians, and learn to love music as we do. We would talk about how great it would be for them to receive the piano instruction we never had. Sigh...I'm kind of disappointed with myself for never showing an interest in piano lessons growing up. I'm positive my parents would've supported it. I really should have...every child going into music should take piano lessons! Anyways, here is a photo my wife took at his lesson yesterday. And I plan on posting lots of updates about how is progressing! Additionally, I had a student partake in the Washington State All-State Honor event this past weekend. She successfully auditioned back in the fall to be part of the Concert Band there, and she was actually the principal horn of this band! Furthermore, the band was directed by my old college band director at CWU, Larry Gookin, now retired. Knowing that I had a great history with this director, my student, Allison, made sure she got a photo with him. I'm really proud of Allison. She's a senior this year, and she plans on going to college and majoring in music education. She wants to be a band teacher. She goes to Coupeville High School, which is a small school and has a pretty weak band program, without many opportunities. I've worked with her for nearly 2 years, and she was definitely pretty good when we started working together. But, man, has she improved! She is able to do pretty much anything that is asked of her, and she's been studying conducting with me as well and has excelled. She also is a brass multi-instrumentalist like me, and really enjoys it. She's one of the futures great band teachers, for sure.
Take care and value music.
