But here's a little summary of what went well for me:
- Starting in June, work went back to normal for me. I starting teaching in person with pretty much all of my students, except for those who live far away.
- I started up my youth brass ensemble again, and we had 3 concerts this year.
- I had the Whidbey Island Brass Camp!
- School went back to normal, so I had more work time
- I performed a concert with the Saratoga Orchestra brass
- I achieved the historic number of 36 lesson students
It's been...almost like normal again. I haven't quite been performing much, mainly because the Saratoga Orchestra hasn't been meeting much. We had a concert planned for the middle of this month, but it's been postponed. I'm very upset about that.
I hope that 2022 is an even better year that 2021. I hope society gets the better of this virus and we can get back to fully performing again. I hope more stuff doesn't get cancelled. I have 13 students playing solos and Solo & Ensemble this month, plus my high school brass ensemble. 10 of my students participate in the All-State honor band here in Washington. I get to see a former student of mine play her senior recital at CWU. I have 8 students graduating this year. And then there's the brass camp...I certainly want that do go unhindered.
Well, aside from all that, I do a have a New Year's resolution this month. I will have a much higher composition output. For the last 2 years have I written no new music at all. I felt really uninspired for most of that time, and then I just kind of forgotten about it. But I'm starting to think about it a lot again, and I really want to try to put some stuff together. I really want to write for orchestra...oh, who am I kidding? I want to write orchestra music for movies! But...when is an opportunity like that going to happen? I'll just stick to writing stuff for orchestra. Maybe it'll get plays someday, I don't know. But that's not all. I do want to write more for brass ensembles, and get some solo literature done.
I do have a lot of great arrangements planned, too, don't worry!
I have other resolutions planned, too, that don't involve music. They mostly revolve around just not being lazy.
So yeah, Happy 2022 everyone! I hope it yields a productive year for us all!
Take care and value music.
