My weekend was packed full of making music in public. The Whidbey Island Horn Club got some really great exposure, performing with the Whidbey Island Community Orchestra at their two winter concerts last Friday and Sunday. my group just played three Christmas tunes as sort of an intermission for the orchestra, but we really made an impression to the audience with our sound. How often does the common concert-going public get to hear a horn ensemble? I'm sure there's never been anything like it on Whidbey Island. And we sounded pretty darn good at those concerts. Plus, it gave me a change to advertise our own full concert on Dec. 20th...(At Click Music in Oak Harbor at 6:30pm, if you can come!).
In addition to this, The Saratoga Orchestra performed their winter concert twice on Saturday--once in Coupeville and once in Langley. Their tradition is to play Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf, along with Christmas tunes, and they make it free for the public. On top of that, they feature an "instrument petting zoo" which give children (and adults, I guess) a change to try out the orchestral instruments. How cool is that!? My wife Holly got to play as my 2nd horn for these concerts, which was her first time playing with us, and I'm really happy she got the chance to do so. We're hoping she plays with us more in the future. But yeah, that concert was a lot of fun. Peter and the Wolf is a treat to play anytime.
And I've been really happy about the amount of traffic I've had on this webpage! Lots of folks have been purchasing my Christmas titles (thanks for that), both here on on Sheet Music Plus. I think that having that review in The Horn Call has really helped. And people are telling their colleagues about it, too (again, thanks for that).
So with performing a lot and successful composition selling, as well as a busy schedule of teaching (27 students a week), things are going quite well. At this rate, I'm gonna be famous someday...well, "famous"...probably. Possibly. Ah, nevermind. Just...thanks for being a follower.
Take care and value music.
