Don't get me wrong, though. Music has still been happening...just not much in the composition/arranging department. A couple weeks ago the Saratoga Orchestra hosted the 2nd annual Pacific Northwest Conducting Institute. It's a conducting workshop that allows 15 conductors to work with the Saratoga Orchestra. It's always a lot of fun, and this year was no exception. We did Brahms' 2nd, among others, and it was really great to play it again. It was my 5th time playing that symphony, the 4th on 1st horn. I ended up playing the big solo at the end of the 1st movement multiple times in rehearsals, since this conductor was being worked with there. And people are so nice when I play well, so I got a nice little bit of applause after I played it once. It's always good to get recognition like that.
Aside from the recognition, I wish I could play in an orchestra every week. I'm so jealous of those players who get to do that.
Well, anyways, I need to start looking ahead to this coming school year. I've already got 28 students in the books, with more coming, I'm sure. My ensembles need some new music ready by mid-September. And I really want to start recording ensemble music again. I haven't been doing that very much.
I also need to start blogging more, and just get more material on this page. I have still recording and videos from the brass camp on here to show everyone...and I know my students are dying to see it, too. Sorry, guys...I'm trying my best to find time.
Take care and value music.
