The purpose of the Whidbey Island Horn Club is to get together to play horn ensemble music, talk about music & horn, and perform for our community. We want to set a good example for musicians (particularly young musicians) and make a name for ourselves as a club. It is a totally volunteer group. None of the members are making any money off of this. Rather, some of the members are donating some of they money to purchase music and other resources for the group. What we really want to do is raise money for the group, not only to purchase music and resources, but also to rent venues, pay for travel expenses for off-island concerts, or even attend regional horn workshops (and even perform at them). Finding ways to raise money will be challenging, but the great thing about this island is that there are many places to perform, and there are many opportunities. We can take donations at concerts to raise money, as well.
I really foresee this being a great thing, this horn club. I've been so excited to started, and am very glad to have it rolling. I have some young horn students who I know would benefit from playing in this group when they're ready. In fact, two of my current high school students and a former student of mine are in the group.
Take care and value music.
