This year, the symposium is at another school which I've visited: The University of Idaho in Moscow. The new horn professor there (and the host of this year's symposium), Jason Johnston, I met at the symposium last year. He's a really nice guy, and a hell of a player. I'm hoping he remembers me and allows me to set up a booth to sell again. This year I'm going to have more stock, not only including my stuff for horn ensemble and my Christmas books, but hopefully some new duet books and a low horn book. That's the goal, anyway. I have until March 31st to do that.
There are other reasons to attend these things for me besides just to sell music. I also want to hear the sessions & concerts, meet some of the professional guest artists, talk to some old friends, and have a look at the exhibit hall. Not only do I hope to have a couple of students attend and try out horns, but I want to expand my knowledge of horn brands and model numbers, and to take them for a test drive myself so I know generally what to expect of them. Also--I have a confession to make: I don't know that much about mouthpieces. So, I hope to remedy that with some good time spent in the exhibits. I'd like to bring my wife along this time (my dad came last time) so that our booth can be manned while I'm out having fun. We just have to stow the kids somewhere...hehe, joking. Probably they'll stay with her parents.
So yeah, the hope is to get out there. We would attend on April 1st & 2nd; the symposium starts on March 31st, but it's a Friday, which wouldn't be possible for us. So we'll see if we can go. It's always good to make an appearance at these things.
Take care and value music.
