Oh, and here's a project I did last week of a fun little brass quartet:
Man, I'm hoping so bad that I can do the brass camp this year. I can just imagine what it would be like...We'd have our biggest turnout yet, and the feeling in the air would be excitement and relief, and so much positivity making music together.
It's so hard for students right now. I mean, I complain about how difficult it is more me. But I'm so motivated to work towards music right now. For middle and high school kids, everything started in band for them, and band was the place then tended to play most often. They get used to playing together and having fun together so early, and as the get older, they work to impress each other and their audiences. They work to compete against each other, too...
Now, though...it's so hard for them to stay motivated. I've had students kinda give up right now. Students are giving up all over the world now. Even pros are, and community members alike.
So my job as a lesson teacher is more important to my students than ever before. I have got to keep them motivated. I try to set goals and give them fun stuff to play. I try to play for them a lot so they have something to try to match. And I am also positive and cheerful, and I try to make them laugh at least once in their lessons. Thankfully I haven't lost any students since the summer, but some of my students struggle to get practice in.
But, can I blame them? It's so hard right now.
C'mon...for us musicians, young and old...this has to be over soon.
Take care and value music.
